Sims Snowboards
If you have ever watched Olympic snowboarding, you will know what a great and exciting sport it can be. It was first introduced in the Olympics in Nagano, Japan in 1998. They broke them up into four types of competition which was then divided into two categories; the men's and women's half pipe and giant slalom. How does this relate to Sims Snowboards, well, I am about to tell you. Even though snowboarding was not introduced to you until 1998, it has been around since 1963. You may be familiar with the name Tom Sims as well as Sherman Poppen. These are the pioneers of snowboarding, and Jake Burton being the first to introduce the fiberglass snowboards in 1979. 1965 was the true beginning of snowboarding which started in the backyard of Sherman Poppen on a slope in his backyard. He took a pair of skis, strapped the nose together and had his daughter ski down the hill. He then knew then how valuable this new invention was. He called it the "Snurfer", which of course, is the combination of snow and surf. After about a year, he had sold over half a million boards. Jake Burton heard about the new "snurfing" competitions along with Tom Sims, who later competed in these snurfing competitions. Tom Sims then perfected his versions of snowboards into what we have today. He has gone on to found the International Snowboarding Federation with his buddy Jake Burton.
