Snowboarding is a winter sport that has been around for a long time. It used to be all about Skiing in the winter, but in recent years snowboarding has certainly taken some popularity. Snowboarding is a sport, which involves having a board attached to your feet as you make your way down a steep slope. Everyone first saw snowboarding in America at about 1960-1970 and became an Olympic Sport in 1998 when the popularity of the sport reached new heights.

Sherman Poppen was the first do design a snowboard. Many don’t know if it was his intention or he discovered it by accident. He began by attached 2 skis together for his young child and then she was pulled by rope. He used it more to glide down the hill with the rope attached. Many don’t think he realized it would one day be an Olympic sport. The three styles of snowboarding are jibbing, free riding free carve and freestyle. All have their unique ways of boarding and jibbing isn’t even considered to be an on snow ride. The only downfall to snowboarding is the injury rate. It is a very dangerous sport to participate in. The larger air you get and the larger slopes you go on makes you better, but it also increases the injury rate. Snowboarding has twice as many injuries when you compare it to skiing. Snowboarding also is more difficult to remain injury free, because the bindings of the board stay on your feet even if you fall down. Again you would not have this problem Skiing.
